Philippines enforces stricter curfew in Tacloban as DepEd aids shooting victims

TACLOBAN CITY, PHILIPPINES – The city ordered stricter enforcement on the curfew ordinance for underage individuals and focused more on security following the shooting incident at San Jose National High School last June 22. Authorities stated that it has left three people dead and several others injured.
The curfew for minors will now be enforced in the San Jose district and parts of the city as the police assist in preventing more violence and maintaining in the safety of the community. The Tacloban City Police Office (TCPO) announced increased visibility and operations where nightly activities for the city’s June 30 fiesta are being held. With these measures, underage people will only be allowed to enter if they are accompanied by a legal guardian.
Meanwhile, the country’s Department of Education (DepEd) promised the victims’ family of quick assistance and constant support as the community copes with the tragedy. They are also coordinating with law enforcement, local government units, and other agencies to provide a unified response.
Additionally, officials are currently arranging psychological and psychosocial support services for the affected people to assist in their emotional recovery. The DepEd regional office reiterated its commitment to ensuring schools remain safe learning environments, while the San Jose Parish called on the public to pray for the victims, the injured, and their families as the Tacloban continues to mourn.
