CANBERRA, Australia — Prime Minister Mark Carney met with Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese in Canberra for his visit to the country, reaffirming the strong bilateral relationship between Canada and Australia.

During his visit, Carney first went to Sydney, followed by an address to the Australian Parliament in Canberra, to advance the partnerships in investment, defence and security, critical minerals, energy, and AI.

The two leaders welcomed the growing collaboration between Canadian pension funds and Australian superannuation funds, supporting Canada’s mission to unleash $1 trillion in investment over the next five years.

Carney and Albanese also highlighted progress toward modernising the Canada-Australia Tax Treaty and announced new formalised ministerial-level economic talks, thereby deepening collaboration on investment, regulatory alignment, and economic security. The leaders similarly discussed facilitating joint investment in nation-building projects.

Along with the talks, the two middle powers’ commitment to upholding a free and open Indo-Pacific and agreeing to reinforce defence and security cooperation, promoting stability, security, and prosperity across the region and between the two countries.
