MANILA – Speaker Faustino “Bojie” Dy III on Wednesday expressed sympathy and solidarity with the families severely affected by Typhoon Tino (international name Kalmaegi), assuring them that the House of Representatives is ready to assist.

Kasama ninyo kami sa pagdarasal para sa inyong kaligtasan at mabilis na pagbangon (The House of Representatives sympathizes with the families severely affected by Typhoon Tino, especially those from a large part of Visayas, and some areas in Mindanao and Southern Luzon that were battered by strong rains and winds. We are one with you in praying for your safety and prompt recovery),” Dy said in a statement.

The Speaker said House members from affected districts are coordinating with national government agencies and local government units for the immediate delivery of support and assistance to their constituents.

For our countrymen who lost their homes and livelihoods, you are not alone. Your representatives will continue to act to ensure that the needed assistance and protection to start anew will reach you),” he said.

Dy also assured the typhoon victims that Congress is ready to allocate funds for their speedy recovery and rehabilitation.

The House remains ready as an institution to allocate corresponding funds and support programs that will hasten rehabilitation, economic recovery and restoration of damaged facilities),” he said.

According to the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC), Typhoon Tino has affected a total of 203,595 families, or 705,549 individuals, in 2,799 barangays in Mimaropa, Bicol Region, Western Visayas, Negros Island Region, Central Visayas, Eastern Visayas, and Caraga.

As of posting, 10,981 families are seeking temporary shelter in 3,894 evacuation centers, while another 27,698 families chose to stay with relatives.
