JORDAN, Guimaras — The Guimaras Provincial Board passed on First Reading Thursday, a resolution which is out to “seek intervention from the joint-venture council vis-a-vis the P11.00 terminal fee obligating each passenger traveling to Guimaras province from Iloilo City and vice-versa” to pay once the controversial Guimaras-Iloilo Ferry Terminal begins to function, Vice Governor Vicente de Asis said.

Knowing the resolution sponsored by 1st District of Guimaras Board Member Rex Fernandez risks getting the ire of Iloilo City officials who said that “anyone who opposes the terminal developer Double Dragon Corporation is presenting himself as anti-development”, still Guimaras officials led by Governor Samuel Gumarin, Jr. cannot turn their backs on their own people who are most likely to bear the brunt of the higher travel expenses, and such scenario in these tough times is definitely unacceptable, De Asis said.

Guimaras is also inclined toward rejecting a plan to close off the Ortiz and Parola wharfs all in Iloilo City, and De Asis has vowed to exercise all means to stop the proposal.
