12 August 2025, Ottawa – The Embassy of the Republic of the Philippines in Canada joined the commemoration of International Humanitarian Law (IHL) Month and IHL Day through the recitation of the IHL Pledge at the Embassy’s Mindanao Hall on 31 July 2025.

The pledge reaffirms commitment to the Geneva Conventions and the protection of human dignity during armed conflict, while promoting to uphold IHL’s fundamental principles of distinction, proportionality, humane treatment, and non-discrimination.
The Philippines has a strong tradition of promoting IHL—being a State Party to all four Geneva Conventions and their Additional Protocols, the first in Southeast Asia to adopt a National IHL Act, and to establish a National IHL Committee.
Pursuant to Executive Order No. 134, August 12 of each year is recognized as International Humanitarian Law Day in the Philippines.
