Explosion rocks US Kadena air base in Okinawa

TOKYO – An explosion occurred at a facility of Japan’s Self-Defense Forces within the US military’s Kadena air base in Okinawa Prefecture, southern Japan, on Monday, according to SDF sources.

Four people were injured in the incident, which is believed to have occurred at a storage depot for unexploded shells.

None of the injured are in critical condition, Japanese Defense Ministry officials said.

The incident is still being investigated.
