RISE Tribe Kicks Off Filipino Heritage Month With A Youth Empowerment Event and Space For Collective Healing

TORONTO, ON – To celebrate Filipino Heritage Month, RISE Tribe will take over Bevy (738 Dundas Street E.) for the 2nd annual RISE UP: TULAYAN, an immersive full-day event for young Filipinos from the Greater Toronto Area.

On June 7th, starting at 11:00 A.M. RISE Tribe will uplift Filipinos in the community and provide Filipino youth a space to connect with their roots and share their lived experiences. RISE UP: TULAYAN was created to help the new generation of Filipino youth chart their path in life through mentorship programs, workshops, and community events.

In light of the recent tragedy in Vancouver, RISE Tribe emphasizes the urgent need for connection within the Filipino community. Despite being one of the largest Asian-Canadian groups, Filipinos often lack shared cultural spaces. RISE Tribe aims to support healing and foster lasting bonds among nearly one million Filipino-Canadians.

“We’re excited to weave a tapestry of learning, connection, and celebration,” Dee de Lara, Co-Director of RISE UP: TULAYAN. “This event is not just about honouring our heritage; it’s about empowering our youth to shape their own narratives and create a future they’re proud of.”

“Tulayan” meaning to bridge or connect in many Philippine languages, is the theme of this year’s RISE UP: TULAYAN. Following the 2024 event’s powerful call for connection across generations, this year focuses on bridging Filipino youth in the GTHA to each other, to elders, and to their cultural roots. Through interactive workshops and meaningful discussions, RISE UP: TULAYAN invites participants to celebrate curiosity, empathy, and community.
