MANILA – President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. on Saturday congratulated the Gilas Pilipinas Youth for clinching the gold medal at the FIBA U16 Asia Cup SEABA Qualifiers.

In an X post, Marcos said Gilas’ victory proves that Filipino youths are talented.

Isang malaking saludo sa Gilas Pilipinas Youth (A big salute to Gilas Pilipinas Youth)! Congratulations on your dominant 6-0 run and the gold medal at the U16 SEABA Qualifiers,” he said.

Isang malinaw na patunay na ang galing at determinasyon ng kabataang Pilipino ay walang kapantay (This is clear proof that the talent and determination of the Filipino youth are unmatched).”

Marcos assured Gilas of the country’s continued support, as the team advanced to the next round.

Suportado namin kayo sa inyong susunod na laban sa (We support you in your next match in the) FIBA Asia Cup,” he said.

Gilas capped off its undefeated run with a gold medal in the FIBA U16 Asia Cup SEABA Qualifiers at the Bren Z. Guiao Convention Center in San Fernando City, Pampanga on Friday night after a dominant 70-40 win over Indonesia.

The Philippine team, headed by first-time coach and former national team member LA Tenorio, finished the tournament at 6-0 with an average winning margin of 39 points.

The Philippines, along with Indonesia and Malaysia, will represent Southeast Asia in the FIBA U16 Asia Cup in Mongolia in July.
