Canada Post workers plan to strike early Friday, causing a significant disruption for the second time in six months. The Canadian Union of Postal Workers (CUPW), representing 55,000 employees, announced the strike this week. This action comes as tensions rise over pay, job security, and working conditions.

The last strike, which lasted a month during the busy holiday season, caused severe delays across the country. Small businesses in British Columbia were hit especially hard, dealing with backlogged orders and lost income—many were still recovering from a separate port strike at the time.

Canada Post has warned customers to expect delivery delays if the strike continues. Parcel shipping and regular mail could be slowed significantly, affecting everything from online orders to bill payments.

The union says workers are under growing pressure as parcel volumes rise with online shopping, while their wages and protections haven’t kept pace. Canada Post, on the other hand, faces financial challenges, with traditional mail volumes dropping and costs rising.

Experts say the dispute reflects a wider trend across Canada: more frontline workers demanding better treatment after years of limited wage growth and increasing workloads. Public services, especially postal delivery, are now under more scrutiny as workers push for change.

With negotiations still stalled, both sides are urged to find a solution quickly. The hope is to avoid another round of costly delays for small business owners and everyday Canadians.
