MANILA – The Human Rights Tribunal for Virtual Slavery in British Columbia has awarded over CAD $55,000 to a Filipina caregiver—one of the biggest court rulings in the Tribunal’s history.

The Filipina, simply named as “PN” in court documents, was  brought to Canada by a couple from Hong Kong in July 2013 to be a caregiver for the couple’s two children and was being paid a measly CAD 0 every month.

Back in Hong Kong, “PN” was forced to work over 17 hours a day.

Her employment continued to be a nightmare when the husband sexually harrassed her and the wife reportedly “humiliated and abused” her, according to an ABS-CBN ‘Balitang Amerika’ report.

The said incident happened while 28-year-old “PN” was still staying with the family in a hotel after moving to Canada.

“PN” was able to escspe her employers when she threw out the garbage.
