MANILA – Makati City Mayor-elect Nancy Binay on Tuesday emphasized the need for open communication with Taguig City officials as both sides continue to navigate longstanding territorial issues.
“Actually, marami pa kaming dapat pag-usapan kasi wala pang writ of execution and may mga asset ang Makati na nasa Taguig ngayon (Actually, there’s still a lot we need to discuss because there is no writ of execution yet, and there Makati City assets that are currently in Taguig),” she said in an interview after being proclaimed as Makati mayor, referring to pending legal procedures and property concerns between the two cities.
The Supreme Court, in late 2022, ruled for the transfer of jurisdiction of 10 villages in Makati City’s second district to Taguig City.
These villages are Pembo, Comembo, Cembo, South Cembo, West Rembo, East Rembo, Pitogo, Rizal, Northside and Southside.
Binay said the transition of jurisdiction and assets remains incomplete and acknowledged the challenges of resolving the dispute.
She stressed the importance of fostering good relations with neighboring Taguig.
“I am more than willing to talk to her,” she added referring to Taguig City Mayor Lani Cayetano.
