In Solidarity with the Filipino Community

Published

on

We are deeply saddened by the tragic incident that occurred on Saturday evening at the Lapu Lapu Day festival in Vancouver, where a vehicle drove into a crowd, resulting in the loss of 11 lives and injuring many others. Our hearts go out to the victims, their families, and the entire Filipino Canadian community during this time of mourning.

In the face of such sorrow, it’s crucial that we come together to support one another. Prime Minister Mark Carney has expressed his condolences and solidarity with the community. You can view and share his message here.

As we mourn together, we also recognize that tomorrow, Monday, April 28th, is Election Day.

While our focus is rightfully on healing and supporting each other, it is also a moment to remember that our voices matter. Through our votes, we can choose leaders who value safety, community, and compassion — the very values that hold us together, especially in times like this.

Mark Carney’s plan is about building a Canada where Filipino Canadians can thrive — with good jobs, affordable housing, strong healthcare, safer communities, and a resilient economy that will stand strong against the challenges ahead.

Now is the time to make your voice heard. Every vote counts! Please remember that the only way to vote is at your assigned polling station on Monday, April 28. Polls will be open for 12 hours (hours vary by time zone). To find out where and how to vote, visit Elections Canada Voting Information. To check what ID you need to bring to vote, please review this guide in Filipino.

In these painful days, may we find strength in each other. May we honor the memory of those we have lost by building a Canada that is safer, kinder, and stronger for every family.

Malalampasan natin ito ng magkakasama.

Sama-sama tayong babangon para sa isang mas matatag na Canada!

Thank you! Maraming salamat po! See you at the polls!
