Vancouver, B.C. – Mabuhay House Society proudly announces the successful launch of the second cohort of its Hub and Spoke Program, a groundbreaking initiative aimed at building leadership capacity and strengthening board governance across Filipino-Canadian community organizations.

This year’s launch brought together over 100 leaders on two events in March, representing a wide range of Filipino-Canadian community groups from across British Columbia. Through the program, participants are provided with essential training and resources to empower their organizations’ officers and members in the areas of governance, leadership development, and community engagement.

The launch builds on the strong foundation laid by the first cohort and the historic Unity Statement, signed by over 75 Filipino-Canadian associations united in the shared vision of community solidarity and empowerment. These organizations continue to stand together in their commitment to uplifting and advocating for the collective voice of the Filipino-Canadian diaspora.

“It’s incredibly inspiring to witness the passion and dedication of our community leaders,” said Lester de Guzman, Chair of the Mabuhay House Society. “This second cohort is proof that there is a strong and growing desire among Filipino-Canadians to step into leadership roles and ensure our community continues to thrive. The Hub and Spoke Program is not just a training platform—it’s a movement towards shared empowerment and sustainable community building.”

This program was made possible through the generous support of the United Way Anti-Racism Impact Grant, which aims to dismantle systemic barriers and support equity-focused community initiatives. Mabuhay House Society extends its deep gratitude to United Way for investing in the growth and leadership of Filipino-Canadian communities. Mabuhay House is ecstatic that United Way BC has secured continued funding from the Province of BC for another year of anti-racism programs in the community. This is a huge milestone for communities like ours that have still been healing from the rise in anti-Asian hate and a move toward a more equitable community and Province.

Now in its second year, the Hub and Spokes Program continues to evolve, incorporating feedback from the inaugural cohort and expanding its reach to include emerging leaders from across sectors. As part of its commitment to civic engagement, Mabuhay House Society encourages all Filipino Canadians to participate actively in the upcoming Canadian elections. Engaging in the electoral process is a crucial step in ensuring that our voices are heard in shaping policies that impact our communities. Our community’s participation in our local elections helps ensure that funding for anti-racism, equity, and inclusion continues for all equity-denied communities.
