MANILA – The Commission on Elections (Comelec) on Friday completed the printing of 68,431,865 voters’ information sheets (VIS) for the May 12 midterm elections.

In a press briefing at the National Printing Office in Quezon City, Comelec Chairperson George Erwin Garcia said the number is equvalent to the total number of registered voters in the country.

The printing was completed in 47 days.

“That is just for local voters. Overseas voting is not included. You (registered voter) should receive this from your local Comelec.

Not from the barangay. We are not sending it through the barangay. We have hired personnel to deliver it to you,” the poll body chief added.

He noted that they will distribute the VIS even in far-flung areas of the country.

“These can serve as a reference for voters to guide them (in choosing candidates) and expedite voting on May 12,” Garcia said.

At the same time, he reported that they have already started the distribution, initially in five regions.

“We have started distributing in Regions 10, 11, 12, 13 and Bangsamoro,” Garcia said.

Under Republic Act 7904, the Comelec must provide all registered voters, through registered mail, with a voter information sheet at least 30 days before an election.
