Aquino inspects major ports, terminals for Holy Week travelers

MANILA — President Benigno S. Aquino III on Wednesday personally inspected major seaports, airports and terminals in preparation for the exodus of travelers during the Holy Week observance.

President Aquino first inspected the Batangas Port where he checked the terminal passengers and ticket booths of the international port.

The President also checked a motorized banca docked near the passenger terminal to make sure that even small seacraft are following the safety and security measures being imposed by the Philippine Coast Guard.

President Aquino was accompanied by Department of Transportation and Communication (DOTC) Secretary Joseph Emilio Abaya, ports officials and local officials headed by Governor Vilma Santos.

From the Batangas Port, President Aquino traveled back to Manila to inspect the three terminals of the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) in Pasay City.

President Aquino checked security facilities, such as X-ray machines for baggage, check-in counters, the airport’s new lounge, and immigration facilities of the NAIA Terminal 3.

The President then proceeded to the NAIA Terminal 1 to check the ongoing renovation of the country’s oldest airport terminal.

Manila International Airport Authority (MIAA) General Manager Angel Honrado briefed the President on the situation of airport security and situation of passengers.

Honrado said the NAIA Terminal 3 rehabilitation is 85 percent complete.

Aquino is also scheduled to visit bus terminals in Quezon City.

Since his election in 2010, President Aquino has been inspecting ports, airports and bus terminals every Holy Week.
