LONDON – Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson has condemned a tragic school shooting that claimed the lives of at least 10 people on Tuesday, calling it the worst in the nation’s history.
“Today, we have witnessed brutal, deadly violence against completely innocent people. This is the worst mass shooting Sweden has ever experienced,” Kristersson said at a news conference.
He expressed deep sorrow over the incident, saying, “It is difficult to comprehend the magnitude of what happened today. What simply cannot happen has happened.” He urged the nation to support law enforcement as they investigate the tragedy.
Swedish police reported that around 10 people were killed in the shooting at Campus Risbergska school in Örebro, approximately 200 kilometers (124 miles) west of Stockholm. Authorities believe the shooter is among the dead and do not anticipate further threats.
The attack occurred at around 12:33 p.m. local time at the school, which serves students who have not completed primary or secondary education.
In response, nearby schools were placed on lockdown for security reasons, while emergency services rushed to the scene.
Police confirmed that five victims were hospitalized, with four undergoing surgery—two in critical condition.
