MYX names not just one but two VJ Search winners

SB19, BINI, and Gloc-9 ruled the MYX Music Awards 2024, which honored this year’s biggest hits and hottest acts in a grand musical celebration.

The Kings of P-pop SB19 bagged two top awards, namely Artist of the Year and Music Video of the Year for “Moonlight” alongside Ian Asher and Terry Zhong. “Moonlight’s” MV was directed by Kerbs Balagtas and Justin de Dios.

The nation’s girl group BINI meanwhile won Song of the Year for the phenomenal hit “Pantropiko.” They also received the Pop Video of the Year award for “Salamin, Salamin,” also directed by Kerbs Balagtas.

Multi-awarded artist Gloc-9, hailed as one of the best Filipino rappers of all time, received the MYX Magna Award, a special honor to a music icon with exemplary contribution to OPM.

Asia’s Songbird Regine Velasquez-Alcasid, also a MYX Magna awardee in 2011, presented the prestigious award to Gloc-9.

Ice Seguerra, Arthur Nery, Flow G, Hero, Loonie, Sassa Dagdag, and Smugglaz performed Gloc-9’s biggest hits as a tribute to the rap icon.

Other MYX Music Awards winners are Maki (Breakout Solo Artist of the Year), Cup of Joe (Breakout Group), “Atin-Atin Lang” by Al James feat. Flow G (Hip-Hop Video), “Yoko Na” by Josh Cullen and Al James (R&B Video), “Determinado” by Pablo and Josue (Collaboration), “Fake Faces” by FELIP (Rock Video), and “Surreal” by Justin (Mellow Video).

Sabrina Carpenter’s “Espresso” also got the Global Video of the Year award while a special citation called MYX Global Impact Award went to Beabadoobee.

Denise Julia and BGYO opened the show with exhilarating performances. Dionela, Nameless Kids, TJ Monterde, DEMI, Over October, Alamat, and Maki also rendered special numbers, treating guests and music fans with their latest hits.

Apart from Gloc-9 and Regine who presented the top awards, BINI members Maloi and Jhoanna, Elijah Canlas, Fyang Smith, Alexa Ilacad, KD Estrada, Maymay Entrata, Chloe San Jose, and Robbie Jaworski also served as award presenters. The event was hosted by Edward Barber and MYX VJ Samm Alvero.

MYX also announced not just one but two winners from its VJ hunt, the MYX VJ Search 2024. Ameera Almamari, Ozzie Llige, and Ella Regudo were named runners-up while Jarren Garcia and Kring Prologo were hailed as new MYX VJs.

This year’s MYX Music Awards was held at ABS-CBN Studio 10 presented by Sunsilk. Streamed live worldwide for Super Kapamilya members on the ABS-CBN Entertainment YouTube channel, the star-studded event brought together today’s biggest and emerging acts, record label executives, and entertainment personalities. Marking the first in-person MYX Music Awards since the pandemic, the celebration became a top trending topic on X (formerly Twitter) in the Philippines last November 21.
