MANILA  — Philippines and Singapore are allowing more flights between the two countries following the inking of an agreement last weekend, the Civil Aeronautics Board (CAB) said.

CAB executive director Carmelo Arcilla said this development not only opens up more opportunities for airlines of the two countries, but also allows both to increase the limit on the frequencies for fifth freedom to 10 per week from eight per week.

Fifth freedom rights is the right to operate services to a third country from a country with which an airline’s resident country has an air services agreement.

Furthermore, co-terminal points for Singaporean carriers were also expanded to Iloilo and Bacolod, which adds to the current list of Cebu, Davao, and Puerto Princesa

From now on, Singaporean carriers can fly to Cebu for example and then proceed to Davao.

He said both countries also agreed on a third country code sharing, which allows airlines from both countries to share marketing services with third-party countries.

CAB also said that the new air pact increased the capacity entitlements between Manila and Singapore by 7.1 percent to 18,888 seats per week from the current 17,627 seats per week.
