Four dead, 450 families homeless in Pasay fire

MANILA — Four members of a family, including a pregnant woman, died while more than 400 families were displaced in a five-hour fire in Pasay City on Monday.
The fatalities were identified as Nida Dakimat, 50, her son Ramil Dakimat, 24, and her four months pregnant daughter-in-law Dana Mente, 19, and her grandchild Cindy Pakira, 8.
The bodies of the family were found along the creek at 9 a.m.
Chief Insp. Douglas Diaz, Pasay fire marshal, said the fire started around 4 a.m. at a house owned by Mario Barmachea Merville Access Road, Brgy. 201, Pasay City.
Diaz said the fire quickly spread and razed more than 300 houses made of light materials.
A warehouse and clothing storage were some of the establishments destroyed by the fire.
The fire reached the general alarm and the fire out declared at 8:57 a.m.
He also said more than 450 families were displaced by the fire while damage to properties was placed at Php 1.5 million.
Diaz added they were still investigating the cause of the fire.
Meanwhile, the affected families evacuated to the gym and barangay hall . The Pasay city government vowed to help them.
