HALIFAX—Another nasty storm is bearing down on Atlantic Canada, dumping heavy snow, ice pellets and freezing rain on many areas.

The weather has closed a number of schools in the region and left hundreds of customers without power.

Arrivals and departures of flights at the international airports in Moncton, N.B., and Halifax have also been impacted.

The highest snow amounts are expected in northern New Brunswick, where forecasters are calling for 35 centimetres today.

Environment Canada is also warning of a possible flash freeze in Nova Scotia, P.E.I. and Newfoundland.

It’s when temperatures drop quickly, creating potentially treacherous and icy conditions.

Rain is expected to be the biggest problem in Nova Scotia, with between 30 and 50 millimetres in the forecast.

Higher amounts are expected for areas of Newfoundland, raising concern over possible localized flooding.

RCMP in Port aux Basques, along the island’s west coast, are asking drivers to avoid heading out in the storm because of deteriorating road conditions.
