REGINA — Saskatchewan Education Minister Don Morgan says the province has no plans to cancel a project that rewards high school students with money and school credit for joining the military reserves.

Peace advocates say they’ve collected over 2,000 names that oppose a pilot program that was approved for Regina schools last year.

The group held a protest at the legislature Monday, but Morgan says the government encouraged the school divisions to participate when the military approached them with the idea.

He says if the program works out well, he hopes it will be adopted in other communities.

The program incorporates military content into the curriculum as an elective.
