MANILA – The Philippine Army (PA) on Sunday honored the heroism and sacrifice of Vietnam War veterans in a wreath-laying ceremony at the Libingan ng mga Bayani, Fort Bonifacio, Taguig City.

“As we pay tribute to their immense sacrifice during their service in a foreign land, the importance of brotherhood without borders, shared goals, and global commitment to peace become more inspiring. Indeed the service of those who were involved in this conflict are timeless symbol of unity and hope and quest for peace that we would always long for,” PA chief Lt. Gen. Roy Galido said in his message forwarded to reporters Monday.

The Philippines deployed the 2,000-member Philippine Civic Action Group, Vietnam (PHILCAG) during the Vietnam War.

The group — guided by the motto “to build not to destroy” — was mainly involved in rebuilding key roads and providing humanitarian aid in the course of their deployment.
