MANILA –Many anticipate the coming of a new year because it gives them renewed hope in what life has to offer.

While the new year remains a blank sheet, there’s one thing that is certain – marsala was selected to be the color of 2015. Marsala will definitely take on the world and will be present in fashion trends, interior design pieces, and even make-up for the ladies.

Carefully chosen by experts from the Pantone Color Institute, marsala is a “naturally robust and earthly wine red.” Pantone has long dictated the color of every year for the past 15 years by using insights and thought processes of humans.

According to Pantone’s executive director Leatrice Eiseman, marsala symbolizes stability and confidence.

“Marsala’s sophisticated and natural earthiness is universally appealing and translated easily to fashion, beauty, industrial design, home furnishings, and interiors,” said Eiseman in a statement.

With this, Pantone has a few ideas on how to make marsala work for all.

For example, when it comes to interiors, marsala can be mixed with frosted almond and champagne beige to give light to a room. It can also be mixed with pieces of furniture that come in shades of wood violet and last year’s color of the year radiant orchid to make a statement.

In terms of furnishings, pick out curtains in marsala shade and match it with white linens or pillow cases, to give an impression of length to any space.

Last but not the least, if you want to make the most out of marsala, pair it with deep mahogany, steel grey, and desert taupe. These colors work well with marsala because they provide a good contrast. For example, get a shelf in desert taupe and match it with a deep marsala curtains to give your living room a dramatic vibe.
