Smoking, drinking now banned on beaches of Baler
SAN FERNANDO, Pampanga, Philippines – Baler Mayor Nelianto Bihasa recently announced a ban on cigarette smoking and on consumption of alcoholic beverages on the beaches and other coastal areas of Baler town in the province of Aurora.
Bihasa explained that the ban is in line with a new ordinance authored by Councilor Meinardo Tropicales.
The law strives to curb the incidences of untoward events – such as disturbance and drowning – on the beaches and coastal areas of Baler, as well as to maintain order and cleanliness in these areas.
A warning will be given to first-time offenders, while fines of P1,500 and P2,500, will be slapped on second and third time violators, respectively. Fourth-time offenders, on the other hand, will be jailed.
Baler, often called the “birthplace of Philippine surfing,” has gained popularity among Filipinos and foreigners, alike, as a surf spot, on account of its clean, good quality waves and swells.
