ADMU, DLSU still on top of volleyball tourney
MANILA – Ateneo and La Salle held on their top spots after surviving tough games yesterday during the UAAP women’s volleyball tournament held at Filoil Flying V Arena.
The Lady Eagles went up against National University and to get their eight straight victory, 25-18, 25-21, 25-22.
Alyssa Valdez gave an all-out performance of 20 points, the last two on a cross-court kill to put her team above NU.
“We were under him for three years and we [felt emotional] seeing him on the other side,” said Valdez who led the Lady Eagles in the finals in the previous years.
In the first game, the Lady Spikers defeated the University of the Philippines Lady Maroons, 25-27, 25-20, 25-23, 25-10, for a record of 8-1.
Christine Soyud was effective that day as she gave 16 points, 13 from attacks.
“We were surprised that she performed well,” La Salle coach Ramil de Jesus said of Soyud.
Leading MVP contender Valdez scored Ateneo’s next three points to prevent NU from attacking them.
