Land, Sea, Sky Celebrate Earth Day at Vanier Park

The Museum of Vancouver, the Vancouver Maritime Museum and the H.R. MacMillan Space Centre Host a Joint Earth Day Event

The Museum of Vancouver (MOV), the Vancouver Maritime Museum (VMM), and the H.R. MacMillan Space Centre proudly announce that they are joining forces to celebrate Earth Day on April 20, 2024. The three attractions, representing land, sea and sky, will come together to offer kid-friendly activities in honour of our planet. 

The event will be shared between the three attractions located in Vanier Park, where families can enjoy a variety of interactive and educational activities. “We are thrilled to be partnering with the Museum of Vancouver and the H.R. MacMillan Space Centre to celebrate Earth Day,” says Darragh de Groot, Programs Manager of the Maritime Museum. “This is a great opportunity for families to learn about the importance of conservation and sustainability in a fun and interactive way.” 

There will be scheduled activities throughout the day, including eco-poetry readings with Vancouver Poet Laureate Fiona Tinwei Lam and Temíxw: Stories from the Land with Chief Ian Campbell at the Museum of Vancouver, storytime readings of The Mess We Made at the Vancouver Maritime Museum and a presentation of Space Technology: Observing Planet Earth at the Space Centre. Each organization will also feature all-day activities including crafts and screenings. 

“We look forward to welcoming everyone to our first Earth Day celebration with our neighbours,” says Alyssa Sy de Jesus, Program Manager at the MOV, “and we’re so pleased to be able to include Musqueam and Squamish stories as part of this by hosting Chief Ian Campbell.”

“We can’t wait to celebrate Earth Day with our co-hosts,” says Leanne Jung, Director of Learning at the Space Centre. “Join us and learn more about how space technology can help us understand the impact we have on our planet!” 

Everyone is welcome and invited to join on April 20th, from 10:00am – 3:00pm to celebrate our planet and learn how we can all play a role in protecting it for future generations.  Admission to the MOV and the VMM will be by donation. Regular fees will be in effect at the Space Centre but special Earth Day activities will be free as part of this special event. 

Earth Day is an annual global celebration that honours the achievements of the environmental movement and raises awareness of the need to protect Earth’s natural resources for future generations.
