Team Philippines remained at the top of their game as Mighty Sports-Go for Gold dominated Team Canada, represented by the University of British Columbia, for win number four in the 41st William Jones Cup at the Changhua County Gym in Taiwan last Monday, July 15.

The Filipinos finished with a 29-point advantage with the score finishing at 116-87, Filipino-American Jeremiah Gray finishing with a team-high of 25 points and 6-of-8 shooting beyond the arc. He also added five rebounds and four assists. Teammate Renaldo Balkman guided the young guard with 22 points, nine rebounds, six assists, four blocks, and two steals. Eugen Phelps chipped a double-double of 20 points and 11 rebounds.

Team Canada was led by Patrick Simon and Taylor Browne who provided 25 points each, totalling 11 of the team’s 16 three-pointers alone.

However, Simon’s hot hand in the first quarter came to an end when Mighty Sports figured how to use their speed and height advantage, exploding with 39 points collectively in the second quarter alone.

During that quarter as well, Canada only shot 1-for-9 when it came to three-pointers.

As a result of his sprained ankle from the last match against Japan, McKenzie Moore sat out for the Mighty Sports’ fourth match of the tournament.

The Coach Charles Tiu-led squad will attempt to continue their winning streak as they face the much-dreaded South Koreans for their next match.
