Twenty-one-year-old Kapamilya actress Liza Soberano has shared last Saturday, July 6 that she has temporarily stepped away from the spotlight to focus on the healing of her index finger, revealing that the final surgical procedure had been completed and the limb will “never function the same way again.”

In a series of graphic images to her 10.1 million followers, Liza captions, “Finally done with my last procedure in hopes of fixing my finger. Unfortunately, it will never function the same way again but at least it’s there!” adding, “Sorry for sharing such gruesome photos.”

The Filipino-American’s procedure was done in the United States, where she was accompanied by her aunt Jonilyn Castillo and on-screen partner and real-life boyfriend Enrique Gil. In an Instagram story by her aunt, Liza is seen waking up post-surgery to Enrique with a bouquet of flowers, to which she responds, “Who are you?” Her Forevermore co-star laughs and replies, “It’s me, it’s Quen” as he watches a drowsy Liza fall in and out of sleep.

Liza has been very open about her difficulty functioning with her injured finger initially caused by teleserye Bagani, which prompted her backing out from the iconic role of “Darna” due to the inability to perform stunts. In November 2018, she encountered her first operation for the healing of her finger. Last month, she elaborates about a bone infection as a result, saying, “My managers and I decided to take this time for me to recover fully. I was supposed to have surgery to remove my plates but, it turns out that we were dealing with more than just protruding hardware. During surgery the doctor discovered that my bone wasn’t healed and that I also had a bone infection (no one is to blame for the infection it just happens sometimes).

So now I’m taking anti-biotics through a picc line on my left arm.

As soon as my infection is clear I will have my 2nd (and possibly 3rd) surgery.”

The 21-year-old will return to the Philippines in around two weeks after recovering from the procedure.
