Newly elected village councilor shot dead in Pasay
MANILA – A 58-year-old newly elected “kagawad” of village councilor in Pasay City was shot dead inside a barangay hall on Monday.
In a report on Tuesday, the Pasay City Police identified the victim as Marcelina Camacho, a former village secretary, who was elected as a councilor of the city’s Barangay 37 in the Oct. 30 Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Elections.
Camacho was attacked by two unidentified motorcycle riders inside the barangay hall along San Juan Street at about 5:35 p.
m. on Monday.
The police said closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage showed that the pillion rider alighted from the motorcycle and shot the victim twice inside the barangay hall.
Camacho was rushed to the Adventist Medical Center but was pronounced dead at about 8:16 p.m.
Operatives of the Pasay City Police Drug Enforcement Unit who were patrolling the area arrested the gunman’s accomplice after their motorcycle bumped a person waiting for a ride, causing them to fall to the ground.
The accomplice, the driver of the motorcycle, was only identified as alias Vladimer, 27, while the gunman managed to escape on foot and is now the subject of a manhunt operation.
The suspect is now detained at the Pasay Police detention cell and will face murder charges before the City Prosecutor’s Office.
