MANILA – The PBA’s Mighty Mouse Jimmy Alapag shared on Wednesday that he felt that he was ready to retire a year ago, thus the reason why he only asked for one-season extension from the Talk ‘N Text management.

The 37-year-old cager recently announced his retirement from basketball.
“Every player knows deep inside him when it’s time to quit,” said Alapag.

“But it’s different with every player. Asi (Taulava), for example, is 41, but he’s still playing great and doesn’t feel like he’s ready to retire soon. Maybe being 6-9 makes a big difference in the wear and tear of the body.

For Alapag, his 11 years of playing basketball has taken its toll. He needs to rest not only his body, but his mind as well.

“Basketball is both physically and mentally demanding,” Alapag explained.

But the fans of the Mighty Mouse will still see him because he will take on the new roles of being the assistant coach of Gilas and team manager of Talk ‘N Text.

“I know I’ll miss the game, but at the same time, I’m excited with the new challenge of being Gilas assistant coach and Talk ‘N Text team manager,” he said.

When asked about one good thing that he looks forward to with regard to his new career path, he said that he now enjoys the flexibility in time.

“I definitely have more time with my family and with other things I want to do,” said Alapag.
