Clark airport poised to take 400 flights diverted from NAIA during pope’s visit

The Clark International Airport Corporation (CIAC) President and CEO Emigdio Tanjuatco III said yesterday that their facility is it is ready to receive flights diverted from the Ninoy International Airport (NIA) and other international airports on the days which coincide with Pope Francis’ visit to the Philippines.

CIAC made this guarantee in light of the cancellation or rebooking of 400 flights at the NAIA, on account of the declaration of a no-fly zone on the days of Pope Francis’ arrival and departure.

Flights on January 15 and 19, the pontiff’s arrival and departire, respectively, were ordered cancelled or rebooked by the Civil Aeronautics Board (CAB) and the Manila International Airport Authority (MIAA).

As such, numerous recruitment and employment agencies called upon CAB and MIAA officials to divert these flights to the Clark International Airport (CRK) so as to accommodate overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) pressed for time to get to their respective countries of employment.
