Five hurt in grenade blast in Bilibid maximum security compound
MANILA – Bureau of Corrections director Franklin Bucayu said that five inmates were injured after an explosion ripped through the maximum security compound of the New Bilibid Prisons in Muntinlupa City Thursday morning.
Bucayu said that the grenade blast happened at 9:55 am, and that authorities are currently investigating who hurled the explosive into the compound, which has been secured by SWAT teams.
According to informants, the grenade blast was aimed high-profile inmate, JB Sebastian.
The NBP’s maximum security compound has been under great scrutiny in recent weeks, after raids conducted by operatives from various government agencies yielded illegal drugs, firearms, sizeable amounts of cash, and other contraband, including luxury and costly recreational items.
