MANILA – The Bureau of Customs (BOC) has surpassed its collection target last month by PHP7.851 billion or 10.86 percent.
In a statement Tuesday, the bureau said the PHP80.133 billion collected in March is so far the highest monthly collection for the year 2023.
Commissioner Bienvenido Rubio thanked the hardworking men and women of the agency, emphasizing that this achievement is a testament to their unwavering commitment to public service.
“I am extremely proud of the men and women of the BOC for their dedication and hard work, and this remarkable achievement is a testament to their unwavering commitment to public service and the successful implementation of our priority programs,” he said.
Rubio vowed to continue introducing improvements to achieve its main task to collect proper taxes for added revenues for the government.
“We will continue to push for reforms in the bureau to ensure that we are providing the best service to the Filipino people and contributing to the country’s economic growth,” he added.
On Monday, the bureau reported it has exceeded its revenue target for the first quarter of 2023 by PHP16.6 billion or 8.43 percent.
It collected a total of PHP213.619 billion for the period of January to March compared to the revenue target of PHP197.020 billion for the period.
Rubio attributed the strong collection performance to the agency’s five priority programs, which focus on digitalizing Customs processes, hitting and surpassing the target, simplifying procedures, curbing smuggling in all forms and uplifting employee welfare and development.
The BOC and the Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) are the revenue collecting agencies of the government.
