MANILA — Slightly cooler than normal temperatures are expected in most parts of Luzon in the next three days because of the effects of the northeast monsoon, according to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) on Sunday.

In an interview, PAGASA weather forecaster Alvin Pura said the cold northeast monsoon or “hanging amihan” is expected to bring cloudy skies with passing light rains in Luzon until Wednesday.

He said the tail-end of a cold front, on the other hand, will bring cloudy skies with light to moderate rains over Central and Eastern Visayas and Caraga regions.

The rest of Luzon, including Metro Manila, will have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with possible isolated rains due to localized thunderstorms.

Pura said the country will continue to be storm-free for the next three days as there is no weather disturbance seen near the Philippine area of responsibility that can develop into tropical cyclone.

PAGASA expects zero to one cyclone to visit the country this month.

In its advisory, PAGASA also said moderate to strong winds blowing from the northeast will prevail over the whole archipelago with moderate to rough seas.

The state weather bureau issued gale warning as strong to gale force winds associated with the surge of northeast monsoon would affect the eastern seaboard of Visayas.

“Fishing boats and other small seacrafts are advised not to venture out into the sea while larger sea vessels are alerted against big waves,” it said.
