19 convicted drug lords now detained at NBI HQ

MANILA — Nineteen convicted drug lords, who are incarcerated at the New Bilibid Prisons (NBP) in Muntinlupa City, are now detained at the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) Headquarters in Taft Avenue, Manila.

This was confirmed on Monday by NBI-Anti Illegal Drugs Unit Head Eric Isidoro following the conduct of a “surprised inspection” in the said jail facility in Muntinlupa City.

Bureau of Corrections (BuCor) Director Franklin Bucayu said that the 19 convicted drug lords will only be temporarily detained at the NBI Headquaters, which provided an “extension cell facility” for the inmates of the NBP.

Likewise, NBI has formed a group who will conduct an investigation in connection with the discovery of gadgets and illegal drugs inside the NBP Compound.

Included in the investigating group are the Anti-Organized and Transnational Crime Division, Anti-Illegal Drugs Division, Intelligence Division and the NBI National Capital Region Office.

During the conduct of the “surprised inspection” on Monday, the inspection team, including Justice Secretary Leila M. De Lima, discovered a “LED TV”, cash vault, bathtub, sound system, air-conditioner system and even illegal drugs inside the national penitentiary.

Authorities earlier discovered rampant illegal drug trade inside the NBP.
