The Miss World 2014 results are in, and the crown has been given to Rolene Strauss of South Africa. Strauss was bestowed the title on Sunday night, at the ExCeL Exhibition Centre in London. She succeeds Philippine beauty Megan Young in bearing the title of Miss World.

“South Africa this is for you,” Strauss said, as the pronouncement was made.

“I think I will brace myself for what’s about to happen. It’s a huge responsibility,” the 22-year old medical student added.

Meanwhile, Young – who acted as host of the event – expressed her hopes that the new Miss World would carry the title with joy.

“I hope Miss South Africa enjoys her year as much as I did,” Young said; even as she advised Strauss to “be ready for challenges, be ready for anything that comes your way.”

Edina Kulcsar of Hungary came in as first runner-up, while the United States’ Elizabeth Safrit placed third.

The Philippines’ bet, Valerie Weigmann made the cut for Top 25, but fell short of the Top 10 in the  semifinals of the contest.
