Measle cases in Cordillera rise by 119%
BAGUIO CITY — The Department of Health (DOH) Cordillera recorded 160 cases of measles from January 1 to December 6 2014 with one fatality which translates to a 119% increase compared to what was recorded in 2013.
DOH-Cor Assistant Regional Director Dr. Amelita Pangilinan said there were 73 cases of measles with one fatality in 2013.
Pangilinan said reported measles cases include Abra with three measles cases in San Juan, San Quintin and Tubo.
14 measles cases in Apayao (six in Flora and eight in Pudtol).
There were 41 measles cases in La Trinidad, 12 in Itogon, two cases each in Tuba and Bakun and one case each in Kibungan, Buguias, Tublay, Kabayan and Sablan for a total of 62 measles cases in Benguet.
Ifugao recorded 18 measles cases (six in Aguinaldo, three cases each in Kiangan and Lagawe, two in Lamut and one each in Alfonso Lista, Banaue, Hingyon and Hungduan).
Tabuk City has 20 cases and Tanudan with two cases for a total of 22 measles cases in Kalinga.
While there were two cases in Mt. Province (Bontoc and Natonin).
There are 39 cases reported in 18 barangays in Baguio City with one fatality.
Pangilinan said parents should be responsible enough to have their children immunized and be cautious on the symptoms of measles.
