POEA cautions aspiring OFWs vs. job scam
MANILA – The Philippine Overseas Employment Administration (POEA) on Tuesday warned job seekers against a text message scam supposedly offering jobs abroad.
In a Facebook post, the agency’s Anti-Illegal Recruitment Unit said the scam attempts to lure the victim into clicking a link purportedly containing the details of a job opportunity.
“If you receive this text message, ignore or delete it. This is a scam! This did not come from POEA. This type of text message is a phishing scam in which a link that when clicked redirects you to a website that can obtain your personal data, password, account number, or other sensitive information and use it in illegal activities,” it added.
Citing a similar warning from the National Telecommunications Commission, the agency also urged the public not to be lured by text messages offering jobs with the promise of high salaries.
“Once again we remind you to be smart, don’t be fooled!” the agency added.
It also reminded the public to only transact with the POEA and accredited recruitment agencies if they want to apply for job opportunities overseas.
Interested applicants may visit the agency’s website, and its social media accounts to be able to access legitimate job offers.
