MANILA – The disqualification of Emilio Ramon “ER” Ejercito as governor of Laguna province was upheld by the Supreme Court on Tuesday, affirming the decision of the Commission on Elections (Comelec) to remove him from office because of overspending.

Comelec en banc’s resolution dated May 2014, affirming the resolution of the Comelec First Division to grant Ejercito’s disqualification was upheld by the high court through a unanimous vote.

While Ejercito insisted that there was grave abuse of discretion committed by the Comelec on its order, the court rejected Ejercito’s claims via a 12-0 vote.

Te, however said that Ejercito may still appeal the ruling.

Meanwhile, the complete details of the court’s decision is yet to be released.
