Hilmarc out in Iloilo Convention bidding

MANILA – Another bidding phase will be held for the construction of the Iloilo Convention following the withdrawal of Hilmarc’s Construction Corp. (HCC) and the subsequent disqualification of the winner.

The Iloilo Convention Center is a controversial pet project of Senate President Franklin Drilon which has a total allocation of P200 million, according to Director Edilberto Tayao of the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH).

The project mainly involves finishing works, including power, water, electricity, glass fixtures and two escalators.

In a bidding held Oct. 20, the lowest bidder WERR Corp. International was disqualified for delays in the implementation of other DPWH projects.

WERR had the lowest bid of P166.

1 million for the project, a figure that is lower than the P187.6 million approved budget.

Other bidders include JD Legaspi Construction with P178.4 million and HSO Construction Corp.

, P180 million.

HCC, the contractor of the alleged overpriced Makati City Building II, meanwhile withdrew in the second phase of the bidding saying that it could not keep with the cost set by DPWH.

The withdrawal was made despite the company’s participation in the first phase of the convention’s construction.
