Palace condoles with kin, followers of ‘Ang Dating Daan’ founder
MANILA – Malacañang on Friday extended sympathy over the passing of Ang Dating Daan televangelist Bro. Eliseo “Eli” Soriano.
“We extend our condolences to the bereaved family, friends, loved ones, and followers of Bro. Eliseo ‘Eli’ Soriano who passed away at the age of 73,” Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque said in a press statement.
Soriano’s religious group confirmed his death on a Facebook post on early Friday morning. His cause of death was not revealed.
Roque praised Soriano for being a “beloved preacher of Ang Dating Daan whose teachings touched the lives and served as guide to many.”
“His (Soriano) dedication to propagate the words of God in the Bible was a clear testament of his steadfast love to serve his brethren and the Almighty,” he said.
Roque also prayed for Soriano’s repose.
“Our prayers go to Bro Eli as he may rest in eternal peace and happiness,” he said.
Soriano began preaching in Guagua, Pampanga.
He took over the leadership of the religious organization in 1977 and renamed it as Members Church of God International in 1980.
It was also in 1980 when Soriano started the airing of “Ang Dating Daan,” a radio program used to preach the gospel. Three years after, the program was launched on television.
