Mississauga’s Army of ANGELS: SIX Mask-eteers (6M)

Published

6 Tourists spend all day making masks, a total of 28,103 masks so far!

Jose Claver N. Toledo II, an American from the Philippines and owner of the Museo Toledo, was planning an extensive road trip through Eastern Canada this May. Covid-19 brought this plan to a screeching halt. So what did they do? Make masks of course!

Now temporary residents of Mississauga, Canada, Mr. Toledo and his friends created the small yet might group Six Mask-eteers (6M), a volunteer project making and donating facemasks to any who need them. By the end of March, the group had purchased three sewing machines, selected a mask pattern, and emptied its closets of any and all viable fabrics. This six-person crew, on a mission, has produced and given more than 281,103 cotton masks, about 1,000 per week (as of Nov 11th: 19.630 for Canada and 8,473 for the Philippines).

“The impact of Jose Toledo II and 6M’s contribution to protecting Canadian is just inestimable. Each mask made and distributed in Canada helps to make us safer. For tourists to be spending their money and 100% of their time trying to protect Canadians is unimaginable! They display the best values of Filipinos, who are known for their hard work, industriousness, hospitality and generosity. In the name of all Canadians, we will be forever grateful for what they have done and will never forget their names,” says Tonya Dickenson, Canada Country Lead and International Marketing and Strategic Planning Director for Army of Mask.

Toledo’s Mask-eteers donated thousands of masks to various medical institutions such as St. Joseph’s Health Centre, Toronto General, Mount Sinai Hospital (all in Toronto) and to families of health workers. They also provided 700 facemasks for all the dwellers of a condominium complex in the city center of Mississauga, and to host of private individuals and their families in Canada and the US. In addition to 13,000 masks to Army of Masks – Canada, which ships them all across Canada to those in dire need including 1,300 masks and counting to Carefor, in Ottawa.

Continuing to work across the globe, 6M initiated another outlet in the Philippines where facemasks will be widely distributed to the homeless and the neglected and indigenous people, the Aetas, who have no means to acquire facemasks let alone food. Mr. Toledo states that they “aim for this purely voluntary activity to eventually become global,” and that “Six Mask-eteers are committed to make and donate face masks to everyone in every community in North America and beyond.”

This remarkable gorup is lead by Jose CLaver N. Toledo II and includes Noel Pangilinan Jr., Anthony Vizcayno, Ramil Malaras, Allan Aranas, and Ruby Ann Gabriel.
