How will Emmys 2020 look like in this pandemic

Glamorous figures in the red carpet, clad in the most intricate or simple yet elegant sets of clothes, walking and smiling in the midst of camera flashes. This is the usual scene when it comes to Hollywood events. Stars get to flaunt their looks before the awarding ceremony takes place.

But in this pandemic era, the Emmy Awards 2020 is going virtual. How will it actually look like? No one really knows yet.

Late-night comedian Jimmy Kimmel was tapped to host the 72nd Primetime Emmy Awards, making this the first major Hollywood ceremony to be done live while following strict health protocols.

This is his third time to head the event but definitely the first time to host it with a close-to-empty theater.

But of course, the event would not just work with a host doing all the talking. In this edition, nominees were sent cameras, lighting, and boom mics to their respective choices of location, which could be their homes or hotels. Special guests were also given the equipment to be part.

With this, celebrities were encouraged to wear clothes that they are comfortable with. While it is expected to see even bits of that glitz and glamour, it is still possible to see even pajamas and sweatshirts. For now, people will have to wait for the event itself to see how it will really be.

But other than these, it is the awarding ceremony that has to be the smoothest, which is why the award-giving body asked the nominees to film their acceptance speeches before the event. Whoever wins gets to have their acceptance speech played after the announcement.

In a report by the Agence-France Presse, Deadline awards columnist Pete Hammond was quoted as saying, “They don’t know what it’s going to look like – it’s a crapshoot.”

The list of the nominees can be viewed here.

The 72nd Emmy Awards will be airing live coast-to-coast on ABC this Sunday, Sept 20 (5:00-8:00 p.m. PT / 8:00-11:00 p.m. ET). International broadcasting schedules can be found here.
