Families thrilled by Terra Nova Adventure Play Environment

The city of Richmond’s innovative, new Terra Nova Adventure Play Environment has been a huge popular success, thrilling kids and families, drawing large crowds and earning rave reviews on social media since its partial opening in late August. Kids of all ages are invited to experience the new play adventure at its official opening on Sept.

27 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Terra Nova Rural Park.

With a natural play theme that incorporates 35- metre ziplines, a super-sized spiral slide, a 10-metre tall treehouse, aerial rope walkway, log jam climbing structure, pivot swings, meadow maze, farm-inspired water and sand play area and other features, it provides a play experience unparalleled in the region.

“Terra Nova is more than just a park; it’s a community gathering place where history and nature come together with modern-day programs that respect our heritage, while supporting our goals to be a sustainable, vibrant community.” said Mayor Malcolm Brodie. “The new Terra Nova Adventure Play Environment supports those goals and its unique and innovative design is sure to become a benchmark for play areas.”

“Play” will be the central theme for the eco-friendly official opening. Interactive activities for children of all ages will be offered by the city’s partners who support programming at Terra Nova, including the Sharing Farm Society, Richmond Schoolyard Society, Richmond Food Security Society, Thompson Community Association’s Nature Preschool and the Nature Park.

Activities include zucchini car races, participatory drum circle, eco-friendly interactive art project, live entertainment, compost demonstration, honey tasting, a vegetable stand and community bread and soup making.
