MANILA – The number of Filipinos diagnosed with coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) abroad has soared to 837 with 88 new confirmed cases on Friday, the highest daily increase recorded since the end of March 2020, the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) said.

There are now 248 recoveries among overseas Filipinos and 106 deaths. Of these figures, eight new recoveries were recorded from the Americas and three new deaths in the same region and from the Middle East.

“The DFA, together with its Foreign Service Posts, continues to rally the support and cooperation of our people in adhering to preventive measures and restrictions imposed by different local health authorities and agencies, and remains dedicated to providing assistance to the Covid-19-positive Filipino nationals as needed,” DFA Assistant Secretary Eduardo Meñez said in a statement.

Based on DFA data, at least 272 Covid-19-positive Filipinos were registered in the Asia Pacific region, 236 in Europe, 152 in the Middle East/Africa, and 177 in the Americas.
