PH’s Covid-19 cases rise by 220; 40 new recoveries reported
MANILA – The Department of Health (DOH) on Sunday reported 220 new positive cases of coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19), bringing the total number of cases in the country to 4,648.
In its latest bulletin, the DOH also recorded 50 new deaths, bringing the total number of deaths to 297, and 40 new recoveries, raising the total number of recoveries to 197.
“The recorded recoveries are patients confined in the hospitals only and there could be more positive, mild and symptomatic cases who recovered through self-isolation in their homes that are not included in this number,” DOH Undersecretary Maria Rosario Vergeire said in Filipino in a virtual presser.
Vergeire reminded the public that the fight against Covid-19 starts at home.
“If each one of us does his or her part, for example, strict observance of enhanced community quarantine, regular handwashing, practicing of proper cough etiquette, and strengthening of the immune system, we can end the spread of Covid-19,” she said.
The DOH earlier provided a new classification of the patients infected by the disease in the country, to provide a uniformed reporting and a more focused approach in preventing the spread of the Covid-19.
The DOH explained that the terms “persons under monitoring” and “patients under investigation” will be replaced with the terms “suspect,” “probable” and “confirmed,” saying the new classification is based on the international system and also after the recommendation of the World Health Organization.
