Statistics Canada released its August Labour Force Survey today, which showed a loss of 7,900 jobs in Ontario.

“The report confirms that Ontario had another disappointing employment month,” said Wellington-Halton Hills MPP Ted Arnott. “Having 7,900 more Ontarians out of work underlines the abject failure of the Liberal Government’s record in keeping and creating more jobs in Ontario.”

August 2014 marked the 92nd consecutive month that Ontario’s unemployment rate has been above the national average.

“It’s time the Liberals admitted that it is their policies, more than any other single factor, that have turned Ontario into a ‘have-not’ province,” said Mr. Arnott.

Ontario’s unemployment rate dropped from 7.5% in July to 7.4% in August, while the national average remained unchanged at 7%.

The drop in Ontario’s unemployment rate was due to the removal of more than 14,000 people from Ontario’s labour force.

“The Provincial Government needs to take a hard look into not only job creation but also job retention,” Mr. Arnott argued. “Our PC Caucus maintains that the Liberals are fuelling an exodus of business out of Ontario due to high taxation, strangling red tape and high electricity costs. In doing so, they are forcing hard-working Ontarians out of good-paying jobs, and reducing opportunities for our young people.
