MANILA — The Sandiganbayan First Division junked Senator Ramon “Bong” Revilla’s petition to transfer to another jail facility managed by the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology.

In a ruling issued yesterday, the anti-graft court decided to keep Revilla and his former chief of staff Richard Cambe at the Philippine National Police Custodial Center in Camp Crame.

The petition earlier filed by the senator, asking the court to move him to a a new detention facility was dismissed for lack of merit.

“Clearly, there is no hard and fast rule mandating that a detainee must be placed in a jail. On the contrary, detention in facilities other than a jail is sanctioned in our jurisdiction,” the ruling read.

Rejecting the senator’s arguments the Sandiganbayan justices agreed that the PNP Custodial Center is not a detention facility.

Revilla was charged with plunder and graft cases before the Sandiganbayan for his alleged involvement in the pork barrel scam.

“The court solicitously agrees that it is the fact of detention and not the place of detention that is important,” the decision added.
