MANILA – The House of Representatives’ headquarters at the Batasang Pambansa in Quezon City will undergo cleaning and disinfection procedures starting Friday until Sunday (March 13 to 15) as a protective measure against the spread of the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19).

In a statement on Thursday, House Secretary General Jose Luis Montales said while there are no confirmed cases of the coronavirus at the House of Representatives, the premises will be disinfected to protect the employees, members, and the public.

“To date, the House of Representatives (HRep) remains Covid-19 free. There are no confirmed cases. Neither are there Persons Under Investigation, nor Persons Under Monitoring,” Montales said.

“The health and safety of everyone in HRep continue to be our priority. As part of our immediate measures to protect everyone against Covid-19, the HRep premises shall undergo thorough cleaning and disinfection tomorrow Friday until Sunday,” he added.

Senate President Vicente Sotto III said the Senate building in Pasay City will be on lockdown starting Thursday after a resource person who attended a recent hearing tested positive for Covid-19.

The head office of the Government Service Insurance System (GSIS) in Pasay City was closed on Thursday following the confirmed case at the Senate.

“In light of the confirmation that a resource person who attended a hearing at the Senate (housed in the GSIS building) tested positive for Covid-19, the GSIS Head Office in Pasay City is temporarily closed as an urgent precautionary measure,” the GSIS said in an advisory.

On Wednesday, the Department of Health confirmed that a 67-year-old Filipino woman is the second Covid-19 death in the country while the number of confirmed cases climbed to 49.
