Sen. Chiz Escudero has chosen no less than President Benigno Aquino III to be his best man when exchanges “I do’s” with actress Heart Evangelista on February 14, 2015; a date which has been tentatively set by the couple.

In an interview at Evangelista’s residence, Escudero told reporters: “The President has agreed to be best man at my wedding, not a [principal] sponsor.”

“Ayaw na magninong sa kasal, kasi may pamahiin na hindi makakasal kapag nagninong ang binata (He refused to be a principal sponsor on account of the superstition that a bachelor who stands as principal sponsor will never marry),” Escudero jokingly said.

Escudero added that he asked the President to stand as his best man two months before he even proposed to Evangelista; an even t which took place last Saturday at the Escuderos’ hometown of Buhatan, in the Philippine province of Sorsogon.

On his choice of best man, Escudero said that the President has been one of his “closest friends for over 15 years.”

He added his personal opinion of the President’s character: “President Aquino perhaps is the most honest President we ever had, more than anyone else, maybe even more than his mother simply because of the availability of the technology. P-Noy has stood up to the scrutiny in modern times where technology has been available and everyone has a camera in hand,” he said.

Escudero, 44, likewise said that he wanted a “new start” in his marriage to Evangelista, 29.

“I wanted to change everything I did from my previous wedding, that’s why I am not getting anyone from my wedding sponsors in my first marriage,” he said.
